1.5 Billion dollar project: Is the world's first environmental sustainability ship the future of floating homes?

Would you live in the world's first environmentally sustainable private residence ship.

Storylines Residential Ships and Brodosplit Shipyard in Split, Croatia, have signed a construction contract to build the world's first environmentally sustainable private residence ship. The 753-foot vessel, named the MV Narrative, will have 547 private residences on board and will be powered by liquid natural gas (LNG). The ship, which is intended to be a floating community, will include a range of amenities such as a post office, school, library, hospital, bank, pools, office spaces, 20 dining and bar venues. It will also have the largest wellness center at sea with a 10,000-square foot area for a spa, gym and anti-aging clinic. Other features include a waterfront marina with personal watercraft, bowling alley, hydroponic garden farm, an open-air fitness deck with racquet sports, yoga sun deck and running track.

In addition to being powered by LNG, which is the most environmentally friendly option currently available for powering ships, the MV Narrative will also convert waste into energy and grow produce at a solar-powered hydroponic garden. A zero-waste farmer's market will also be available on board with locally sourced, compostable or recyclable products. The ship's engines will be dual fuel-powered, using both fuel oil and LNG, and will be optimized to have the lowest possible emissions of harmful particles and gases. The total sales revenue for the project is valued at $1.5 billion, and the ship is scheduled for delivery in 2025. Prices for the residences on the MV Narrative range from $1 to $8 million for the lifetime of the vessel, with a limited number of 24-year leases available starting at $647,000.

Ready to sail into a greener future? Dive into the sustainable initiatives on board the ship:

Liquid Natural Gas (LNG)

The MV Narrative, the world's first environmentally sustainable private residence ship, will be powered by liquid natural gas (LNG), the cleanest burning fossil fuel and the most environmentally friendly option for powering ships.

Sustainability Ambassador

The ship has a sustainability consultant with a graduate degree from Harvard University in sustainability and the environment, who helps consult on new ventures with a focus on creating eco-friendly habitats and communities.

Zero-Waste Farmers Market

The MV Narrative will have a zero-waste farmer's market on board, stocking fresh, organic produce grown on the ship and locally sourced products from the places it visits. It will also have refill stations and health and beauty items that are free of wasteful packaging.

Converting Waste to Energy

The ship will convert waste, including food, sewage, paper, cardboard, plastic, wood, and oil, into usable energy. It will also utilize all potentially available waste heat for technical heating purposes, including heating the lap pool, and reclaim excess energy to cool the HVAC system.

Ocean Conservancy

Storylines, the company behind the MV Narrative, is committed to ocean conservation and will donate a portion of its profits towards safeguarding the oceans. It will also educate residents and guests on how to care for sensitive reef ecosystems and organize volunteer reef-restoration projects. It will sell only reef-safe sunscreen products and use only biodegradable cleaning products.

No Single-Use Plastics

The MV Narrative is committed to using only biodegradable or reusable items and will ban single-use plastics. It will use metal spoons instead of plastic stir sticks, washable glasses and coffee cups instead of disposable cups, and biodegradable straws, bamboo picnic utensils, cloth napkins, and compostable take-out containers.

Sustainably Sourced Food

The MV Narrative will source sustainable seafood certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) to preserve marine wildlife habitats, and other animal products will be free-range and not factory farmed. It will also source ingredients from sustainable and local farms to reduce the ship's carbon footprint and provide freshest food to residents and crew.

Organic Dry Cleaning

The MV Narrative will have an onboard dry cleaning center that uses alternatives to chemical solvents such as perchloroethylene, which can leak toxicities and harm workers.

Are you ready to pack your bags and set sail towards a sustainable future on the high seas with the MV Narrative?
